Flashback: Back Study (drawing)

Graphite, charcoal, heightening and acetone on watercolor paper. 10" x 14" and part of a private collection. This was one of the first acetone drawings I did last year in my old studio, I think it was part of a series of six or seven that I did in one long day.

On the Easel: The Six Star Self-Portrait

This painting is being created with flake white, ivory black and 'Torrit' gray, a color made special by Gamblin out of their dregs at the end of the year. 12" x 18". It's going to stay black and white. Nearly done except for the stars and a bit of tweaking in other spots.

Finished: You Can Lead Your Horse

Large 6' x 4' painting is all done. My first horse, and I'm very proud of it. I only wish I could have gone full size for the horsey. Not the best photo during a nasty gray day out, but you get the idea. 6' x 4' oil on birch. Available.

Advice From Animals: Part II

That's right, for a limited time, the watercolors that didn't sell yet will be available for only $30 bucks, a sweet, sweet deal. You need some art!

Advice From Animals: Part I

Here are a few examples of the watercolors I made during the 12 hour lock-in. It's important to heed the advice of animals.

Fr3sh Art Interview with Max Miller

Fr3sh Art 12 Hour Lock-In

In preparation for the 24 hour lock-in at Eye Level Art, Fr3sh Art put on a 12 hour lock-in over Friday night.  9 artists made a great assortment of artwork during the duration.  Here's a shot Laura Olsen took of me hard at work on 50 watercolors (my goal had been 120, but I quickly found out just how taxing that would have been).  It was a great, albeit wearying experience.  I think the mental drain was far more detrimental than the physical.  But, we have the 24 hour lock-in coming up and this was great preparation for it.

Pounded it out and finished "Hunting For Song" today. 24 x 24 inches, oil on birch. Available.

Not OK Computer

This painting was done for the Ones and Zeros show at Eye Level Art back in June. Inspiration was taken from the Ok Computer album by Radiohead. It's difficult to tell online but there are many tiny and light allusions to the artwork of the album by Stanley Donwood. It is 32 x 32 inches, oil on birch, framed and still available.

Flashback: Antonella

Antonella was one of my favorite portrait models in Italy. She had the most expressive eyebrows, but despite the idealization I could never make her look happy. This is charcoal on toned paper with white heightening. Today it's in a private collection.

On the easel today: Hunting for Song (cont.)

Inquisitive raven has now made an appearance. But the background and the body still have a little way to go.

Deposition/Reposition

So I've been asked to be in this really great show August 28th at the Circular Congregation Church in Charleston, SC. The idea is for seven artists to explore the representation of women in religious artwork. SO, I've got a great idea, but it's a secret so far. Updates soon.

On the easel today: Hunting for Song

Just started a new painting. Not much to look at yet, but it'll come to a close pretty quick. 24 x 24. Ravens and crows eat songbirds sometimes, did you know that?
