NYC ArtExpo

I'll be in NYC for the next five days doing the ArtExpo at the Javits Center. Wish me luck!

Stuffed

Here's a picture of one corner of the studio, the rest of the place looks even worse, it's like a house of cards. In just a few days this place will be completely empty, there's 30 works going to Lynchburg and 30 to New York. Exciting!

I started this painting today, just sort of as an experiment. The light coming in the studio was kind of a raking, hard white and it left all the halftones a muted, dried mustardy color.

Vision

Here's a painting I'm working on entitled 'Vision.' It's fairly large, 44" x 60," the figure is life-size. I'm having trouble coordinating the light in it. I feel that either the sky is too blue, or the figure and beach are too washed out. I think I'm just going to end up making the sky more grey, which is a hassle, but is worth it. The updated versions of 'Vision' will be posted soon enough, though I'm not sure when I'll get back to working on this because it's not going to be included in either the Lynchburg show, or the New York Art Expo. This photo doesn't really do the painting justice...I'll work on it, we'll see where it goes.

And we're off!

This is the debut of the Max Miller Method Log. A place to come to see what I'm working on, how far along I am, or how much I'm slacking off. You're welcome to leave constructive comments. Pictured is a self-portrait I was working on and summarily destroyed when I felt that I'd made it too small. One thing you'll find is that I seem to have a problem working 'under life-size' when it comes to painting. But, maybe this image gives a good idea of my lay-in. This was just a quick little one hour painting.
